Your New Patient Dental Visit

At Pleasant View Smiles, we believe that your first visit sets the groundwork for a lasting relationship with us. During this initial appointment, we will carefully review your medical and dental history, introduce you to our team members and doctor, and address any questions or concerns you have about your dental health and treatment plan. We understand the significance of allowing sufficient time for this visit, so you never feel hurried. To prepare for your appointment, please read the following details and complete the online forms.

Step 1: Appointment

When you arrive, our friendly team will greet you, check you in, notify your oral health team of your arrival, verify insurance if applicable, and guide you through any necessary new patient paperwork. You can save time by completing the new patient forms in your appointment confirmation email before you arrive.Once completed, a team member will escort you from the waiting room to a treatment room, where they will review your dental history, medical history, and any dental health concerns or issues. The Dental Assistant will take X-rays, allowing us to examine the jaw’s structure, teeth position, and tooth condition.

Step 2: Exam

As a new patient, your initial comprehensive exam will last approximately one hour. This visit will help us get acquainted with each other and learn about your goals for your dental treatment. Upon completion of your examination and review of X-rays, we will review the findings and results with you. Our practice focuses on technology and has the advantage of an intraoral camera to give you a 3-D video tour concerning tooth areas if needed. Your Dentist will discuss recommendations and procedures and outline an individualized approach specific to your dental health.

Step 3: Hygiene Visit

On your first visit, you may not receive a cleaning. A cleaning may be completed after the doctor ensures the appropriate treatment for your oral health. Your Dental Hygienist will review your mouth and gums and oral cancer screening. If appropriate, our Hygienist will thoroughly clean and polish your teeth. Your Hygienist may clean your teeth manually with traditional tools or use an advanced water-powered instrument based on what is best for your specific needs. Finally, your Hygienist will review tips for caring for your teeth and preventing gum disease. Your hygiene exam should take about 45 minutes, and you will leave with a toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste to keep on track with your home health routine.

At our dental practice, we understand the importance of affordable dental care. That’s why we are in-network with major insurance providers, including Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN, and Delta Dental. Additionally, we accept many other traditional dental PPO plans, making our services accessible to more patients.

Our experienced dental team will gladly assist you with an estimate of benefits before your treatment and insurance claim filing. If we are out-of-network for your insurance, we will help guide you in filing a claim.

Being in-network means that the dentist has a contractual agreement with the insurance company to accept their fee schedule for services provided to patients who are enrolled in that particular insurance plan.

Dentists may be out of network if not contracted with a particular dental insurance provider. If we are out of network, we may still be able to provide services to you with your insurance. Still, the patient may be responsible for a higher percentage of the cost of the service, and the insurance plan may have a maximum limit on the amount they will reimburse for that service. Additionally, patients may have to file their insurance claims and wait for reimbursement.

While being in-network with your insurance provider can offer some cost savings and convenience, there are several reasons why you may still choose to see an out-of-network dentist.

Our office offers a wider range of treatment options and a higher level of personalized care, which can improve the quality of your dental care.

In addition, out-of-network dentists may offer more flexibility with scheduling appointments and providing treatments, as they are not restricted by the insurance company’s policies and limitations.

If you have a high deductible plan or a limited network of in-network providers, choosing an in-network provider may not see significant cost savings. In such cases, you may be better off choosing an out-of-network provider offering the best care and treatment options for your needs.

It is always a good idea to discuss your options with our office and your insurance provider to make an informed decision about your dental care. Our practice is happy to assist you with any questions or concerns about your insurance coverage and dental care needs.
